When you need the news – whether that means catching up on events around the nation, or staying current on what occurs in your own community, or starting in-depth research for a school project or a business – make your library’s resources your first stop, and Newsbank your destination. Newsbank allows you to search print and online-only newspapers, blogs, journals, multimedia, and more, and it is free with your Pickerington Public Library card!

Local and state news

Newsbank brings you America’s news from sources all over the country, and that includes our local and state news outlets, like The Columbus Dispatch, Cleveland Plain-Dealer,Toledo Blade, and more. Browse their online archives, or search previous editions for a specific article, subject, or person.

You can also take a shortcut to hone in on news around the state: simply click on the USA-Ohio link that appears on the Newsbank homepage, and you can read the latest from specific newspapers, or search by topic and filter your results so that only Ohio coverage appears.

You can also create daily or weekly email alerts, so that you always receive the latest news from your favorite sources!

National news

News cycles change so rapidly these days, it can be intimidating to keep up with what’s happening across the country. In Newsbank, you can search for a single topic, and view the results from newspapers across the country, or you can explore coverage state by state.

Want to find out what’s happening in Connecticut? You can read recent issues of The Hartford Courant. Or if you want to see what the West Coast has to offer, try the Sacramento Bee or the Seattle Times. All you need to do is select your state, your newspaper, and then click on the most recent issues!

Current events and hot topics

Newsbank has several different features that can help you dig deep into topics as varied as politics, health, sports, and more, and they are all easily accessed from its homepage:

  • Special Reports: Your central location to stay on top of breaking news: here’s where you’ll find the most important issues dominating the news, the most recent articles about those issues, and everything from images, websites, and recommended search topics, to help further your research.
  • Find a Topic: When you click on one of Newsbank’s general topics, follow the links to its suggested searches so that you can explore specific sub-categories, and see what sparks your interest! For example, a search on Education will lead to a range of topics, from Virtual Learning to Common Core Standards. From there, it is one click of a button, and you can see the most recent news articles on that topic, and you can narrow your results by city, state, and even newspaper.

You can access Newsbank from the library’s computers, or from home using your Pickerington Public Library card. Click here to get started, or ask an Adult Services staff member for assistance.

Newsbank is also one of the featured topics in next month’s workshop: Library Resources for Business Owners! Be sure to register so that you can learn more about additional print and electronic resources that will help you develop your business.
