Back-to-School Readiness for Parents!

The start of the new school year is right around the corner!  We’ve got you covered with a variety of resources to help your child have a successful school year.

Books

From picture books to chapter books to nonfiction, our shelves are stocked with great books – and if you can’t find what you are looking for, or if you need a good suggestion for AR reads, our librarians are here to help.  Check out this list of some back to school reads:

Databases

Did you know that we have a variety of online databases geared toward students?  All you need to access these valuable resources is your free Pickerington Library card.  Check out this list of online databases geared toward kids:

World Book Online: World Book Online offers information for students in grades Pre-K to High School.  Some of the features include stories, games, videos, project ideas, quizzes, and more.

BookFlix: Book Flix is an online resource that pairs a storybook with a related non-fiction book.  It also features educator resources such as lesson plans, interactive games, Spanish books, and more.  This resource is geared toward children in grades Pre-K-3.

TrueFlix: True Flix is an online resource that focuses on science and social studies topics.  Each topic features a non-fiction book and video, lesson plans, quiz, project ideas, website links, and more.  This resource is geared toward children in grades 3-6.

Kids InfoBits: Kids InfoBits is an easy-to-use digital resource that features age-appropriate, reliable, curriculum-related content covering a broad range of educational topics.

Homework Help

After-school homework help is available at all library locations! The Homework Help Center offers homework assistance, study help, paper editing, and review, with a variety of free resources for to students use, including laptops, textbooks, free printing, and more.

The Homework Help Centers reopen for the school year on Monday, August 20, and are open Monday-Thursday. No appointment is necessary, and no library card is required: the Centers are available for any students in grades K-12!

Reading Buddies

Does your child need help with reading? Try our Reading Buddies program, for children in kindergarten through third grade. Practice reading with a volunteer for twenty-minute sessions every Monday and Wednesday: our volunteers will listen to them read and help coach them towards stronger literacy and a lifelong love of reading! No appointment necessary.

Mondays and Wednesdays, from 4:30-6:30 p.m. See upcoming dates on our event calendar:

Monday sessions | Wednesday sessions
