My Creativebug Watch List – Crochet, Knitting, Cricut, and Painting

As an avid hobby crafter, I was so excited to learn that our customers were getting access to Creativebug! For those of you not yet in the know, Creativebug is a database full of more than 1,000 video classes focusing on crafting, cooking, event planning, and more. It’s a DIY-er’s dream! Have I whet your appetite? Dive in with your library card, and start learning today! Here’s what I’m watching:

Beginner Crochet 1 by Cal Patch

Crochet is one of my favorite and most used crafting skills. By learning just a couple of stitches you can make anything from washcloths to scarves and hats. It’s the perfect skill for homemade gift making! I currently facilitate our monthly library needlecraft (i.e. crochet and knitting) group, Stitching N’ the Stacks, and I’m always looking for new resources to help people learn crochet. Cal Patch’s videos are perfect! She guides the viewer at a slow pace and provides close up shots of her every move. Her way of explaining the process of making stitches is so clear and concise!

How to Knit: Essential Skills for Getting Started by Carla Scott

Learning to knit has long been a desire of mine, but something I’ve repeatedly failed at. That’s why I’m looking forward to checking out Carla Scott’s classes. Her videos are incredibly well produced and go into great detail. I greatly appreciated her slow pace and Creativebug’s Slow Motion feature! Cricut Crafts: DIY Bookplates by Lia Griffith

We are so excited to say that Pickerington Public Library now has a Cricut Explore Air 2 machine! A Cricut machine is a digital cutting tool that you can use for crafting with everything from paper to leather. I can’t wait to dive in and try it out. Creativebug has many tutorials for Cricut crafts. As a librarian, I’m most excited to try making these beautiful bookplates!

Acrylic Painting for Beginners: Getting Started by Lisa Solomon

Paint Nights, such as the one we host quarterly at Pickerington Main, are all the rage! I’ve tried one myself and it really sparked an interest in learning to paint. I’m excited to try Lisa Solomon’s painting classes. Solomon is the perfect example of the level of expertise that you can find on Creativebug. She’s a practicing art professor! I started watching this beginner class, and love the level of detail that she goes into about the supplies needed in acrylic painting. I can’t wait to run out to the craft store!
