Summer Reading 2020: Imagine Your Story!

The Pickerington Public Library is excited to offer a variety of virtual and at-home opportunities for summer 2020!

Track reading, get book recommendations, complete missionsand play minigames on READsquared, our new virtual reading platform, available via both app and web browser.

READsquared really takes reading logs to the next level,” said Lauren Edmonds, Homework Help Center Coordinator. “Even though we will miss having in-person events this summer, we are excited to see how everyone challenges themselves with the different activities on the app. It’s a great opportunity to branch out and realize how many ways we use reading in our lives.

Register beginning June 8 for Summer Reading, which runs through August 8. Participants can earn toys, coupons, and free books as well as raffle tickets for grand prize packages.  If you would like to participate in Summer Reading but have limited technology access, please call us to learn about alternate opportunities.

Library staff has created fun activities to keep minds active during the summer,” said Dana Folkerts, Youth Services ManagerWe hope that by encouraging kids to participate, their science, math, writing, and reading skills stay fresh for when they return to school.”

Beginning June 8, customers can pick up or call to reserve Grab & Go Activities, which are bags containing a simple craft or activity, supplies, and instructions. Different activities will be available for preschool, elementary school, and tween/teen customers.

Do you miss Early Literacy Classes as much as we do? Tune in to Zoom every Wednesday at 10 a.m. beginning June 10 for live Family Fun classesLearn more on the Events Calendar. Miss a week or want to watch it again? Family Fun classes are archived on the library’s YouTube channel.

On-Demand Stories & Songs will be a chance for families to get a personalized early literacy class with a Youth Services staff member on Zoom. This will allow for more one-to-one interaction with families who are missing in-person early literacy classes. Request an appointment online, and a staff member will contact you within 48 hours to set up a 20-minute live session.

Join us for live Zoom events including American Sign Language Jr., Dr. Eureka’s Mythical Mayhem, Tween Media Smart, and tween and teen trivia nights. Adult programs include crafting tutorials, book clubsand Facebook Live chats. Learn more on the Events Calendar.

Let library staff browse the shelves for you! Call to request a Book Bundle of selected materials on your favorite topics. We will gather a stack of books just for you, and you can check them out using curbside pickup.

We will be adding more events and on-demand videos throughout the summer, so be sure to subscribe to our newsletter and social media (@PickeringtonLib) to learn the latest.
