The Library Board of Trustees of Pickerington Public Library shall have the sole responsibility and authority for naming or renaming library facilities and/or subunits of facilities, programs, or collections, and for bestowing significant recognition in its facilities.

The Library Board prioritizes naming facilities and subunits in alignment with the Library’s mission, vision, and strategic goals. Naming rights may recognize geographical relevance, functional purpose, or donor contributions. Generally, facilities shall be named with a preference for geographic or functional designations. Exceptions may be considered when the Library Board desires to honor an individual, foundation, or organization for outstanding contributions that are consistent with the nature and purpose of the Library.

Naming rights will typically be granted for a defined period, not to exceed the useful life of the facility or program, unless otherwise stipulated by a separate agreement approved by the Board. For purposes of this policy, “useful life” means the period until the facility, program, or collection is substantially renovated, repurposed, or retired. At such time, the naming designation may expire, subject to the Board’s discretion and any applicable donor agreements.

The Library Board reserves the right to revoke a naming designation if the named individual or entity is later found to have engaged in conduct that is inconsistent with the mission or values of the Library. If a naming designation is considered for revocation, the Board will provide notice to the donor or their designee, deliberate in a public meeting, and take action by majority vote. A public statement will be issued to explain the rationale in order to preserve transparency and community trust.

The Library Director or Fiscal Officer shall be responsible and have the authority for developing guidelines and administrative procedures to effectively perform and consider exceptions to this policy.
