Meet Mabel Wagnalls

She was a force to be reckoned with and she had it all: Mabel Wagnalls Jones (1869-1946) was successful, intelligent, talented and wealthy. She was an author, concert pianist, friend to literary, entertainment and adventurous luminaries, and she was the only daughter of Anna and Adam Wagnalls, president of publishing giant Funk & Wagnalls Company. And to think she is mostly remembered not for what is mentioned above, but for the building she erected to honor her parents, to benefit a small town she never lived in, Lithopolis, OH!
Come hear Mabel’s amazing story about her family and the building of the Wagnalls Memorial, which is located in the central Ohio town of Lithopolis. You’ll also hear the the actual speech Mabel gave on the day of the dedication – from Mabel herself, as re-enacted by our own Juvenile Services Assistant, Carol Gaal.
