Maggie Stiefvater is also making a return to library shelves after last year’s release of The Raven King, the conclusion to her Raven Boys series. Her new book is a stand-alone novel called All the Crooked Saints that takes place in the early 1960s. It tells the story of the Soria family, who have a long tradition of serving as miracle-giving saints for the pilgrims that flock to their part of the world. Yet the miracle of giving has rules, and this book is all about what happens when those rules are broken. If this story catches your interest, place your hold here.
E.K. Johnson, author of last year’s Exit, Pursued By a Bear and Star Wars: Ahsoka, released a new book on October 3. That Inevitable Victorian Thing is a speculative fiction novel about a British Empire still going strong. Crown princess Victoria-Margaret enjoys a summer of freedom and privacy as a commoner before she is to be genetically matched with her future husband. Along the way she befriends two people that change her life. Interested in this Victorian tale? Place your hold here.
Debut author Nic Stone takes on race relations and police brutality in her new book Dear Martin, to be released on October 17. Stone tells the story of Justyce McAllister, a top performing African American student at a mostly white school, who copes with near arrest and his friend being shot by an off duty cop by examining the writings of Martin Luther King, Jr. and writing to the civil rights leader in his journal, asking the question, “What would Martin do?” Fans of Jason Reynolds, Walter Dean Myers, and Angie Thomas’ new book, The Hate U Give, should place their holds here.
Last but not least, fans of Michael Grant’s Gone series can rejoice over the release of Grant’s new follow-up novel, Monster, on October 17.
