New at Your Library: Top 5 for November

Several of our favorite bestselling authors are back this month with new fiction, and we can’t wait to dive into their latest stories: get ready for everything from feel-good reads to books bursting with mystery and intrigue!

Artemis book coverArtemis, by Andy Weir (November 14): Another smart, snarky science fiction work from the author of the hugely popular The Martian. Sometime in the near future, Artemis is the first (and only) city on the moon, where a young porter tries to make ends meet with her side business as a smuggler – and it looks like she’s hit the jackpot when a businessman offers serious money for a little corporate sabotage. Too bad that she gets embroiled in a plot that could wipe out all life on the moon…

Perfect if you love: Andy Weir! If you can’t get enough of his instant classic, The Martian, or its blockbuster film adaptationthen this follow-up is your next must-read, hands down.

Midnight Line coverThe Midnight Line, by Lee Child (November 7): “A new Jack Reacher novel” is probably all we needed to say about this book to convince you to read it. But here are a few plot hints: Reacher, a former Army ranger and everyone’s favorite fictional wanderer, is on a bus trip through Wisconsin that leads him to a pawn shop, where a West Point cadet ring is for sale. And when Jack decides to return the ring to its former owner, there are unforeseen complications along the way, but really: what else would we expect of Reacher?

Perfect if you love: the strong, silent type of hero. Try David Baldacci’s Amos Decker novels, or Michael Connelly’s Harry Bosch series.

Story of Arthur Truluv book coverThe Story of Arthur Truluv, by Elizabeth Berg (November 21): The Story of Arthur Truluv is the perfect feel-good read if you love books that are just plain sweet and sentimental – the title character is an elderly widower who befriends his lonely neighbor and a teenage girl desperately seeking a family, and together they form a tight-knit, loving band of misfits.

Perfect if you love: This book will go straight to your heart, especially for readers of A Man Called Ove, by Fredrik Backman, or the new Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine, by Gail Honeyman.

Hardcore Twenty-Four book coverHardcore Twenty-Four, by Janet Evanovich (November 14): Welcome back, Stephanie Plum! The private detective returns in fine form, with her wacky Grandma Mazur, off-the-wall sidekick Lula, and will-they-or-won’t-they boyfriends in tow, but the drama doesn’t end there – Stephanie’s tackling a serial killer, a boa constrictor, and the return of Diesel. All in a day’s work for Trenton’s funniest P.I.

Perfect if you love: A blend of excellent comedy and, um, unusual detective skills. Try The Spellman Files, by Lisa Lutz, Time’s Up, by Janey Mack, or Marry Kiss Kill, by Anne Flett-Giordano.

Bonfire book coverBonfire, by Krysten Ritter (November 7): You may already know Ritter as TV’s Jessica Jones, where she and other Marvel superheroes defend New York City from its many villains. Now you can get to know her as a debut novelist already garnering rave reviews for Bonfire: a tough and spirited lawyer returns to her Indiana hometown determined to bring down the local corporation polluting the town’s water supply, but runs into a conspiracy – and her old demons – that she may not be able to handle.

Perfect if you love: thrillers where strong-willed woman square off against their small towns’ dark secrets. Try Dark Road Home, by Anna Carlisle, or Stripped Bare, by Shannon Baker.
