As the fall publishing season comes to a close, we wanted to offer you one more month’s worth of spotlight selections! In November we see releases from best-selling teen favorites Marissa Meyer and Sara Shepard, along with two books from debut authors you won’t want to miss.
I absolutely must start off this post by talking about Marissa Meyer’s new book, and the first entry in her new series, Renegades. Meyer is the best-selling author of Heartless, an Alice in Wonderland retelling, and the science fiction/twisted fairytale series Lunar Chronicles. Meyer is excellent at turning a genre on its head, and that’s just what you get with Renegades, which tackles the genre of the superhero story. It takes place in a world where mass destruction has led to the rise of super-powered beings, whom society neatly labels as either heroes or villains. But as main characters Nova and Adrian quickly discover, the lines between good and evil are never quite that neat. Due to Meyer’s reputation, this book is sure to have a wait list, so get your name on it today!
Where are my Pretty Little Liars fans? Have you read Sara Shepard’s The Amateurs yet? Well, this is a good time to try it out, because the next book in the series is coming out in November! Amateurs follows the story of a group of young people, some of whom have experienced the effects of crime in their families and others who are true crime addicts, as they step into the world of criminal investigation. In the first book, the group tackled the disappearance of a young Connecticut woman. In the second book, Follow Me, the girls take on another missing persons case, that of a young social media star. Full of suspense and a healthy dose of romance, you don’t want to miss any of the books in this series! To try out the first book, The Amateurs, click here. For something a little different, try This Mortal Coil, by debut author Emily Suvada. Young hacker Catarina is an expert when it comes to genetic hacking. She can hack into the technology in anyone’s DNA to adjust their appearance as much as they want. Unfortunately, Catarina lives in a world suffering from a deadly plague, the vaccine for which her father has the skills to develop. Yet he finds himself kidnapped and Catarina is left to track him and, hopefully, the vaccine down in order to save the human race. To get your hands on this exciting story, place your hold here!
Is dark humor your thing? Then try Frankie by Shivaun Plozza, another debut author. Meet Frankie Vega: she’s mad at the world and she’s not afraid to show it. Suddenly, a young boy shows up claiming to be her half-brother, forcing her to confront a past she would rather be left forgotten. When the boy disappears, she has to work together with a young man with a criminal past and face up to some hard truths in order to find him. If you want to find out more, place your hold here.
And so ends our series of most anticipated teen reads lists for the fall. Stay tuned for December, when we will return to doing themed blog posts. Happy Reading!
